Is Discord on Xbox? Yes, and on PlayStation too. Both consoles support Discord voice chat, so you can talk to friends on PC, phone or other consoles while you play. There is no full Discord app with text channels on either console, but voice works natively once your accounts are linked. This guide shows how to get Discord on Xbox and PS5, how to link your accounts, and how to fix common problems.

Does Xbox have Discord?

Yes. Since 2022, Xbox Series X|S and Xbox One support Discord voice chat directly on the console, so you no longer need to keep your phone in the call. There is no standalone Discord app to download from the Xbox store; instead, you link your Discord account to your Xbox account and then transfer voice calls to the console from the Discord app on your phone or PC.

How to link Discord to Xbox

  1. On your Xbox, press the Xbox button and go to Profile & system > Settings > Account > Linked social accounts.
  2. Select Discord and choose Link. The console shows a QR code and a link.
  3. Scan the code with your phone or open the link on your PC, sign in to Discord, and approve the connection.
  4. Back on Xbox, the Discord account now appears as linked.

You can also link from the Discord side: open User Settings > Connections in the Discord app and choose Xbox.

How to use Discord on Xbox

  1. Open Discord on your phone or PC and join a voice channel.
  2. In the voice panel, tap or click Join on Xbox.
  3. Choose your console. On phone, Discord opens the Xbox app to transfer the call; on PC, a QR code appears to scan.
  4. Your voice chat moves to the Xbox, and you hear it through your controller headset or TV.

That is how to connect Discord to Xbox for voice. To leave, disconnect from the Xbox guide’s Parties & chats section or from Discord on your phone. While you are in a Discord call on Xbox, you can still see your Xbox party list, but you cannot be in both at once.

Can you get Discord on Xbox without a phone?

Not fully. You need the Discord app on a phone or PC to start the call and transfer it, because the console cannot browse servers or channels itself. Once transferred, you can put the phone away. If you only have a console, Xbox party chat is the built-in alternative.

Does PlayStation have Discord?

Yes. PS5 supports Discord voice chat in the same way, and since 2024 you can join Discord voice channels directly from the PS5 itself without a phone, after linking accounts.

How to use Discord on PS5

  1. Go to Settings > Users and Accounts > Linked Services > Discord and link your account by scanning the QR code.
  2. Open the Game Base from the PS5 control center, select the Discord tab and pick a server and voice channel to join directly.
  3. Or start a call on your phone or PC and choose Join on PlayStation.

The PS4 does not support Discord voice; PS4 players have to use a phone or PC alongside the console.

Discord on Xbox vs Xbox party chat

Use Discord when your group includes PC or PlayStation players, or when you already organize your gaming in a Discord server. Use Xbox party chat when everyone is on Xbox, because it has better integration with game invites and Looking for Group posts. Both support up to dozens of people, but Discord voice on console is limited to voice; you cannot see text messages or screen shares on the TV.

Discord on Xbox not working? Fixes

  • “Join on Xbox” button missing: update the Discord app, make sure your Xbox account is linked under Discord Connections, and check that the Xbox app is installed on the same phone.
  • Transfer fails: the console must be on and signed in with the linked Xbox account. Restart the console and try again.
  • Nobody can hear you: check that your headset is connected to the controller or console and that the mic is not muted in the Xbox guide. In Discord, make sure you are not server-muted.
  • Voice cuts out: your NAT type may be strict. Enable UPnP on the router; see UPnP and NAT fixes.
  • Child accounts: Xbox Family Settings may block third-party voice chat. A parent can allow it in the Family Settings app under Privacy > Communications.
  • Discord outage: check discordstatus.com; if Discord is down, voice transfer will fail on every platform.

Discord on PS5 not working? Fixes

  • Unlink and relink Discord in Settings > Users and Accounts > Linked Services.
  • Update the PS5 system software; console-native Discord voice needs a recent version.
  • Check the PlayStation privacy setting “Who can communicate with you” for child accounts.
  • If audio is low, adjust chat volume in the PS5 control center under Sound.

Privacy and safety tips

Linking accounts shares your Xbox or PlayStation gamertag with Discord, and Discord can display what game you are playing. You can turn off “Display as status” for the Xbox or PlayStation connection in Discord settings. For younger players, both Xbox Family Settings and PlayStation Family Management let parents block voice chat with non-friends, and Discord’s own Family Center shows who teens are talking to without revealing message content.

Discord on console FAQ

Is there a Discord app on Xbox?

Not a full one. Discord on Xbox is voice-only and runs through the console’s built-in chat after you link accounts.

Can I see Discord messages on my Xbox?

No. Text channels, DMs and screen sharing stay on your phone or PC.

Does Discord work on Xbox One?

Yes. Discord voice works on Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S.

Can PC and Xbox players be in the same Discord call?

Yes. That is the main reason to use Discord instead of Xbox party chat: anyone on PC, phone, Xbox or PS5 can join the same voice channel.

Does Discord on console cost money?

No. Discord voice on Xbox and PS5 is free and does not need Discord Nitro or Game Pass.

Discord features on console vs PC

Discord on console is built for voice. On Xbox and PS5 you can join voice channels and private calls, hear your friends while you play, and transfer a call from your phone or PC to the console. What you cannot do on console is read text channels, send messages, share your screen from the console or use bots. For those you still need the Discord app on a phone or PC. Many players keep Discord open on their phone next to the TV for text and links while the voice call runs through the console.

Setting up a Discord server for your console group

If you play with the same friends every week, a small Discord server is easier than inviting everyone to a call. Create a server on PC or phone, add a voice channel for each game you play, and set a text channel for scheduling. Give channels clear names such as Fortnite squad or Helldivers 2, so friends on Xbox and PS5 can find the right one quickly from the console’s Discord menu. Turn on two-factor authentication on your Discord account before linking it to any console.

Is it worth using Discord on console?

Yes, if your friends play on different platforms. Discord voice works across PC, Xbox, PS5 and phones, so it solves the problem of party chat being locked to one console family. If everyone in your group plays on the same console, the built-in party chat is simpler and uses fewer steps.
