Which console or handheld should you look at first?
Start with where your games are, then think about form factor, and only then compare prices. If your library and friends are on PlayStation, the PlayStation 5 launched on November 12, 2020, and the PlayStation 5 Pro followed on November 7, 2024 as the higher-end model. On Xbox, the Xbox Series X and the Xbox Series S both launched on November 10, 2020. The Series S is the smaller digital-only model.
If you want something you can carry, the Nintendo Switch 2 launched on June 5, 2025 as a console and handheld in one. The Steam Deck OLED from Valve launched on November 16, 2023 and plays your Steam library. The ASUS ROG Xbox Ally launched on October 16, 2025 as a Windows handheld built with Xbox. Each hub has guides to help you choose, such as PS5 Pro guides, Xbox Series S guides and Steam Deck guides.
How do graphics cards fit in?
Three single-card hubs cover current graphics cards: the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5090, released on January 30, 2025, the RTX 5070 Ti, released on February 20, 2025, and the AMD Radeon RX 9070 XT, released on March 6, 2025. The Gaming graphics cards hub is the overview, with guides on how to choose a card, why cards have cost more than the recommended price in 2026, power supplies for high-end cards, DLSS 4 and setting up an AMD Radeon card.
What do the hardware calculators do?
- Download time calculators for the PlayStation 5, PS5 Pro, Xbox Series X and S, Switch 2, Steam Deck OLED and ROG Xbox Ally. Download time is file size divided by connection speed. Connection speeds are quoted in megabits per second and file sizes in gigabytes, so divide the speed by eight to get megabytes per second.
- Resolution pixel count comparisons for the PS5, PS5 Pro, RTX 5090, RTX 5070 Ti and RX 9070 XT. A 1080p frame has 2,073,600 pixels, a 1440p frame has 3,686,400 and a 4K frame has 8,294,400, so 4K asks a graphics chip to draw four times as many pixels as 1080p.
- Frame time and refresh rate calculators for the RTX 5090, RTX 5070 Ti, RX 9070 XT, Xbox Series X and PS5 Pro. Frame time in milliseconds is 1,000 divided by frames per second, so 60 fps is 16.7 ms per frame, 120 fps is 8.3 ms and 144 fps is 6.9 ms.
- Screen sharpness (PPI) calculators for the Switch 2, Steam Deck and ROG Xbox Ally X. Pixels per inch is the diagonal pixel count divided by the diagonal screen size in inches.
Open any of them from the tools page or from the Tools tab on a device hub.
How do you buy hardware without overpaying?
- Check the game library first. Make sure the games you care about run on the device.
- Compare current prices. Prices, bundles and availability change quickly, so check an authorised retailer rather than trusting an old number.
- Look at storage. Large modern games take a lot of space, so check how much you get and whether you can expand it.
- Read the warranty and return terms. They matter most for expensive items such as high-end graphics cards.
- Avoid unknown sellers. If a price is far below everywhere else, be careful.
Frequently asked questions
Which gaming console is best?
It depends on your games. PlayStation 5 and PS5 Pro suit Sony exclusives, Xbox Series X and S suit Xbox and Game Pass players, and the Nintendo Switch 2 suits Nintendo games and portable play. Pick the platform where your games and friends are first.
Is the Nintendo Switch 2 out?
Yes. The Nintendo Switch 2 was released on June 5, 2025.
Have the PlayStation 6 and the next Xbox been announced?
Not officially. Our hubs for the PlayStation 6 and the next Xbox track reports only, and neither has a confirmed release date.
What is the difference between Xbox Series X and Series S?
Both launched on November 10, 2020. The Series X is the higher-end model, while the Series S is the smaller digital-only model. Check each hub for the full specifications.
How do I calculate how long a game will take to download?
Divide the file size by your speed in megabytes per second, which is your megabit speed divided by eight. A 100 GB game on a 100 Mbps connection takes about two hours and 13 minutes at best.
How do I calculate frame time?
Divide 1,000 by your frames per second. At 60 fps each frame takes 16.7 milliseconds, at 120 fps it takes 8.3 milliseconds and at 144 fps it takes 6.9 milliseconds.
Does Questline show current prices?
No. Hubs show launch details, but hardware prices change often through sales and regional differences. Always confirm the current price with a retailer before you buy.
