All toolsFrequently asked questions about PlayStation 5 Pro
How much is the PS5 Pro?
Sony lists it at $899.99 since April 2, 2026, but many US retailers have sold it for about $749.99 since late August.
When are the best PS5 Pro deals?
Black Friday and Sony’s Days of Play sale are the most likely times for bundles and discounts.
Does the PS5 Pro include a vertical stand?
No. The stand and the disc drive are sold separately.
When did the PS5 Pro come out?
The PlayStation 5 Pro launched on November 7, 2024.
What is PSSR?
PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution is the PS5 Pro's AI upscaling. It renders games at a lower resolution and rebuilds a sharper image, freeing up power for higher frame rates.
How much more powerful is the PS5 Pro?
On raw graphics compute it is about 60 percent higher than the base PS5 (about 16.7 against about 10.3 teraflops). Real game gains depend on the game.
Does the PS5 Pro come with a disc drive?
No. The disc drive is sold separately, so budget for it if you play physical games.
Is the PS5 Pro worth it?
It makes the most sense if you have a 4K TV and want better performance and ray tracing modes. On a 1080p TV the benefit is smaller.
The PlayStation 5 Pro is Sony’s most powerful console: about 16.7 teraflops of graphics power, PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution (PSSR) upscaling, ray tracing two to three times faster than the standard PS5, and a 2TB SSD. It launched on November 7, 2024 and plays every PS5 and PS4 game, with extra visual upgrades in games marked PS5 Pro Enhanced. This hub covers the PS5 Pro price history, how to shop deals on a PlayStation 5 Pro console, what is in the box, the best games to show it off, and links to our full comparison.
PS5 Pro price history
| Date | US price | What happened |
|---|---|---|
| November 7, 2024 | $699.99 | Launch price |
| Mid-2025 | $649.99 to $749.99 | First Days of Play discount, then the August 2025 increase |
| April 2, 2026 | $899.99 | Sony’s official price increase |
| Late August 2026 onward | About $749.99 at many retailers | Retail prices fell back; reports disagree on whether Sony formally rolled back |
Because official and retail prices have diverged, always compare PlayStation Direct with at least two big retailers before you buy. Some third-party sellers listed the PS5 Pro well above $1,000 when stock ran short in October 2026, and pre-owned units at some stores were priced above the new price, so avoid paying a premium unless the console is genuinely unavailable elsewhere.
How to shop deals on a PlayStation 5 Pro console
- Black Friday: the most likely time for a PS5 Pro bundle with a game or a gift card. Sony has used Black Friday for its biggest console promotions in past years.
- Days of Play (May to June): Sony’s own sale; the PS5 Pro got its first discount during Days of Play 2025.
- Retailer events: Target Circle Week, Walmart+ deals and Best Buy member sales often add gift cards rather than cutting the price.
- Open-box and refurbished: Best Buy open-box and Sony-certified refurbished consoles can save money with a warranty.
- Trade-ins: trading in a standard PS5 at GameStop or another retailer can cover part of the upgrade cost.
For year-round deal timing, see PlayStation deals and sales.
What is in the box?
- PS5 Pro console with 2TB SSD (about 1.86TB usable)
- DualSense wireless controller
- Ultra High Speed HDMI cable, power cable and USB cable
- Two horizontal feet
Not included: the disc drive (about $79.99) and the vertical stand (sold separately). If you play physical games, add the disc drive to your budget.
Key PS5 Pro features
PSSR upscaling
PSSR is Sony’s machine-learning upscaler. It lets games render at a lower resolution and reconstruct a sharp 4K image, so 60fps performance modes look nearly as sharp as 30fps quality modes on a standard PS5.
Faster ray tracing
Ray-traced reflections, shadows and lighting run two to three times faster, so more games can enable ray tracing at 60fps.
Game Boost and enhanced games
Game Boost can raise frame rates in some older PS5 and PS4 games automatically, while PS5 Pro Enhanced games get dedicated modes from their developers.
Wi-Fi 7 and storage
The Pro adds Wi-Fi 7 for faster downloads on supported routers and doubles internal storage to 2TB. The M.2 slot accepts the same SSD upgrades as the PS5; see PS5 storage upgrades.
Best games to play on PS5 Pro
- Marvel’s Spider-Man 2
- Ghost of Yotei
- Gran Turismo 7, with ray tracing during races
- The Last of Us Part II Remastered
- Horizon Forbidden West
- Final Fantasy VII Rebirth
- Call of Duty: Black Ops 7
- Alan Wake 2
Look for the PS5 Pro Enhanced label on the PlayStation Store page.
Is the PS5 Pro right for you?
The PS5 Pro is for players with a 4K TV who want the best image quality at 60fps in big single-player games. On a 1080p screen, or if you mostly play competitive shooters, the standard PS5 is better value. Read the full breakdown in PlayStation 5 Pro vs PS5, and for disc vs digital decisions see the PS5 buying guide. Optimize your settings with our PS5 Pro settings guide.
Setting up a PS5 Pro for the best picture
A PS5 Pro only shows its value when it is set up properly. Start with the TV: connect the console to an HDMI 2.1 port, turn on the TV’s game mode and enable the enhanced HDMI or input signal plus setting, which many TVs leave off by default. On the console, open Settings, Screen and Video, and check that the output is 4K at 120Hz with variable refresh rate enabled if your TV supports it. Run the HDR adjustment so bright highlights and dark scenes are calibrated to your screen. Then open Saved Data and Game/App Settings and set the game preset to favor performance mode, since that is where PSSR makes the biggest difference. Finally, look for PS5 Pro settings inside each game, because many enhanced titles add a separate Pro mode that you need to select yourself.
Transferring from a PS5 to a PS5 Pro
Moving to the Pro is straightforward. During setup, choose to transfer data from another PS5 and keep both consoles on the same network, ideally connected with a LAN cable for speed. You can copy games, saved data and settings in one go. If you have an M.2 SSD in your old PS5, you can move it into the Pro instead of copying everything, because the Pro uses the same slot and format. Make sure you sign out of the old console or turn off console sharing and offline play before you sell or give it away, so the new owner does not keep access to your library.
Noise, power and placement
The PS5 Pro draws more power than the standard PS5 under load, so it produces more heat, although it remains quiet in normal play. Give it at least 10 centimeters of space on each side, avoid enclosed cabinets, and clean the dust catchers every few months with a vacuum on a low setting. Laid flat on its feet or standing on the optional vertical stand, it fits in most TV units, but measure the space first if your shelf is shallow.
Who should skip the PS5 Pro
Skip the Pro if your main screen is a 1080p TV or monitor, if you mostly play online shooters that already run at high frame rates, or if you are on a tight budget and would rather spend the difference on games, storage or a better TV. In those cases a standard PS5 gives you the same library, the same online features and the same controller for much less money. The Pro is a premium upgrade, and it makes most sense once the rest of your setup can show what it does.
Warranty and support
A new PS5 Pro comes with Sony’s standard one-year limited hardware warranty in the US, and longer coverage in some regions. Register the console with your PlayStation account so repairs are easier to arrange, and keep the receipt. Retailers also sell extended protection plans; they can be worth it on an expensive console if they cover accidental damage. For repair options and contact details, see our PlayStation support guide, and check PSN status before assuming an online problem is with your console.
