Fortnite seasons explained: chapters, mini-seasons and Fortnite OG

How Fortnite chapters, seasons, mini-seasons and the separate Fortnite OG mode fit together, with the current season.

Fortnite organises its Battle Royale story into chapters and seasons, with mini-seasons and a separate OG mode on the side. Here is how it fits together.

Chapters and seasons

A chapter is a big story arc with a new map, and each chapter is split into seasons. Counting every Battle Royale season, Epic had launched 42 as of October 23, 2026, from Chapter 1 Season 1 to Chapter 7 Season 4. Chapter 7 began on November 29, 2025.

Mini-seasons

Mini-seasons are shorter phases between full seasons. Four of the 42 seasons were mini-seasons. A mini-season was expected after Chapter 7 Season 4 ended on November 1, 2026, so check the in-game news.

Fortnite OG

Fortnite OG is a separate, permanent mode that launched on December 6, 2024. It replays Chapter 1 from the start on shorter timers and has its own seasons.

The Battle Pass

Each season has a Battle Pass with time-limited cosmetics, so decide before the season ends whether it is worth buying.

Chapter 8

Epic had not announced Chapter 8 as of late October 2026. Treat any date you see as a leak, not an announcement.
