How much will GTA 6 cost, and how much storage will it need? Rockstar has confirmed the price: $79.99 for the Standard Edition and $99.99 for the Ultimate Edition in the US. The file size has not been officially announced yet, but there are useful clues. This guide covers both, plus how to make room on your PS5 or Xbox before the November 12 pre-load.

How much does GTA 6 cost?

EditionUS priceWhat you get
Standard Edition$79.99The full Grand Theft Auto VI game
Ultimate Edition$99.99The game plus premium vehicles, weapons and finishes, apparel and tattoos, and access to exclusive in-game shops
Pre-order bonus (both editions)IncludedVintage Vice City Pack, for pre-orders placed before November 20, 2026

So how much will GTA 6 cost? $79.99 for the base game, $10 more than the $69.99 that became standard for big games in 2020 and the same as several other major 2025-2026 releases. In Canada the Standard Edition is $109.99 CAD, and in much of Europe it is 79.99 euros. Early rumors of a $100 base price turned out to be wrong; $99.99 is the Ultimate Edition only.

Is the Ultimate Edition worth it?

Only if you want the cosmetic extras at launch. The Ultimate Edition adds premium vehicles, customized weapons, exclusive clothing and tattoos and two exclusive shops, but none of it changes the story. If you care mainly about the campaign, the Standard Edition is the better value. Prices may drop during holiday sales after launch, but Rockstar games rarely get big discounts in the first year.

How many GB will GTA 6 be?

Rockstar has not published the official GTA 6 file size yet. Here is what we know:

  • A leaker claimed in October 2026 that a development build is over 200 GB, but development builds include extra files that are removed from the retail version.
  • A screenshot showing “244.86 GB required” circulated on Reddit in September 2026, but it has not been verified and did not appear on Sony’s public store page.
  • Rockstar’s previous games give a baseline: GTA 5 on PS5 uses about 95 GB and Red Dead Redemption 2 around 120 GB.
  • Rockstar says the GTA 6 map is roughly twice the size of GTA 5’s, with far more detail.

A reasonable expectation for how many gigs GTA 6 will take is somewhere between 150 GB and 250 GB, but wait for the official number on the store pages before deleting your entire library. We will update this page as soon as Rockstar or the console stores list it.

How much storage is GTA 6 on Xbox Series S and PS5?

This matters most on smaller consoles:

  • Xbox Series S 512GB: only about 364 GB is usable, so GTA 6 could take more than half of it.
  • PS5 Digital and disc (1TB): about 848 GB usable on the slim and Pro.
  • Original PS5 (825GB): about 667 GB usable.
  • Xbox Series X (1TB): about 802 GB usable.

Because even the boxed version is a download code, you need the full space free on your console or on supported expansion storage before you play.

How to make room for GTA 6

  1. Check your free space. On PS5, go to Settings > Storage > Console Storage. On Xbox, press the Xbox button and open My games & apps > Manage > Storage devices.
  2. Uninstall big games you are not playing. Call of Duty, Forza and other large titles often use 100-250 GB. Your saves stay in the cloud or on the console.
  3. Remove optional content. Many games let you uninstall campaigns, multiplayer modes or 4K texture packs separately.
  4. Move games to external storage. On PS5, move PS4 games to a USB drive; on Xbox, move Xbox One and older games to a USB drive.
  5. Expand storage. A PS5 M.2 NVMe SSD or an Xbox Storage Expansion Card gives room for GTA 6 and more. See the PS5 storage upgrade and Xbox storage expansion guides.

Can GTA 6 run from external storage?

On PS5, current-gen games must run from the internal SSD or an M.2 expansion SSD installed inside the console; a USB drive can store them but not run them. On Xbox Series X|S, current-gen games must run from the internal SSD or an official Storage Expansion Card. So for GTA 6, plan for internal or expansion SSD space, not a normal USB hard drive.

How long will GTA 6 take to download?

That depends on the final size and your connection. As a rough guide for a 200 GB download: about 4.5 hours at 100 Mbps, 1 hour 50 minutes at 250 Mbps, and about 30 minutes at 1 Gbps, if the servers are not congested. Launch week will be busy, so pre-load from November 12 to avoid waiting on launch night. You can estimate your own time with our download time calculator.

Will GTA 6 get cheaper?

Unlikely soon. GTA 5 stayed near full price for years and only began appearing at deep discounts long after launch. Expect small retailer discounts around Black Friday 2026 at most. Keep an eye on PlayStation and Xbox deals.

Digital vs physical: which should you buy?

A digital copy lets you pre-load before launch so you can play the moment GTA 6 unlocks, and it can never be scratched or lost. A physical copy can be resold, lent to a friend, and is sometimes cheaper at retailers during launch week. Be aware that a game of this size will still require a large installation and a day-one patch even from a disc, so physical buyers should not expect to skip the download entirely. If you have a capped internet connection, the disc version saves the most data, because only the patch needs downloading.

Budgeting for GTA 6

Beyond the game itself, plan for an online subscription if you want to play GTA 6’s online mode on console, extra storage if your console is nearly full, and possibly in-game currency, which Rockstar has historically sold for GTA Online. Setting a monthly spending limit on your console account is the simplest way to keep costs under control, especially if children will be playing. Our PS5 storage guide and Xbox storage guide explain the cheapest ways to make room.

Pre-order bonuses and editions

Rockstar usually offers a standard edition and a more expensive edition with in-game extras such as cash, vehicles or outfits for the online mode. Pre-order bonuses tend to be cosmetic or small boosts rather than gameplay advantages, so there is no need to pay more just to avoid missing out. If you plan to play mostly single-player, the standard edition gives you the full story. Check the official Rockstar Store and your console store when pre-orders open for exact prices and contents, and compare retailers, which sometimes include gift cards or small discounts with pre-orders.
