The Raiden Shogun is one of the best-known fights in Genshin Impact, and players search for how to beat her at two points: during the Inazuma Archon Quest, and later as the weekly boss. Both versions share the same core attacks, but the rules are different. This guide explains where to find her, how each fight works, what her attacks look like and how to build a team that handles her. Watch the video above to see the timings.
The two fights
The Archon Quest fight
The first encounter occurs during the quest, and it is a modified version that you cannot fail. The rematch later in Chapter 2 is the first time you can actually beat her, and it is a big step up in difficulty because you are locked into the party you chose. Before you face her you also need to defeat La Signora in the same act. During the fight she debuffs you, so you should avoid her attacks and survive, deal damage when you can, and heal with skills or food. After a minute elapses, a cutscene triggers and you are able to deal a huge burst of damage to drop her health considerably.
The weekly boss
After the quest, she becomes a weekly Electro boss, officially called Magatsu Mitake Narukami no Mikoto, in the Trounce Domain End of the Oneiric Euthymia. You find it under the Grand Narukami Shrine on Narukami Island in Inazuma. To unlock it you need to complete her story quest, with guides citing Adventure Rank 40 or above. You fight her inside the domain with a party of your choice.
Why people get stuck
Her melee range is dangerous. Her most powerful attack is an advancing sword slash that lunges forward several times and ends in a dash attack. Stay in that range and you lose a large part of your health quickly. Players who treat her as a close-range brawl often fail, while players who keep their distance and wait for openings do far better.
How to approach the fight
- Bring the party you want. In the quest fight you cannot swap after the fight starts, so pick a balanced team beforehand.
- Respect melee range. Avoid trading blows when she lunges. Back off, dodge the slashes and return when the attack ends.
- Use shields and healing. A shielder or healer keeps you alive through mistakes.
- Use burst windows. Spend your elemental bursts when she is stunned or recovering.
- Keep moving. Standing still is the main reason for deaths.
Party tips
A balanced party with a main damage dealer, a supporting damage dealer, a shielder or healer and a flexible slot works well. Because she is an Electro boss, think about elemental reactions and the shields you bring. Characters with strong shields make the fight forgiving. Keep a healer for emergencies, and bring a character who can quickly start and finish a burst window. If you are using free characters, rely on a simple, consistent team and practice her timings.
The dodge rhythm
Learn the rhythm of her sword combos. She has a series of slashes with brief pauses, and a gap lets you attack. Dodging at the last moment through an attack triggers a perfect dodge in many cases, which gives you extra time to react. Practicing in the weekly domain is the best way to learn, since you can retry at any time.
Rewards and Resin
Weekly bosses give high-value materials, and they are one of the best uses of Resin. Unspent Resin does not save automatically, so plan your weekly boss runs around your Resin refill. Because the domain is weekly, you also get a discounted Resin cost for the first few claims each week.
Tips for success
- Stay mobile and avoid her close-range combos.
- Use shields to avoid interruption.
- Bring a character who can heal or give you a safety net.
- Do not burn all your cooldowns at once.
- Practice in the weekly domain until the rhythm is automatic.
Before Raiden: the La Signora fight
In the Archon quest you must defeat La Signora first. Her fight has two phases and a short transition. In the Cryo phase she uses projectiles such as icicles and frostbolts. In the Pyro phase she uses fire attacks, and a fire debuff can be cleared by destroying any of the four fire crystals in the corners of the room. The same fight is available as the Trounce Domain Narukami Island: Tenshukaku, with recommended party levels from 60 to 90 depending on the version you choose, and a Resin cost of 60, or 30 for the first three Trounce Domain rewards claimed. Winning it cleanly is good practice for dodging, shield timing and using bursts at the right moment.
Why shields matter
Shielders reduce interruption and give you time to attack. Zhongli is often named as a strong shield option. A shield lets you stay in the fight a little longer when you misjudge her slash range. If you do not have a shield character, rely on healing and distance, and treat every lunge as a signal to move.
The weekly routine
Weekly bosses reset on a schedule, so you can attempt the fight once a week and claim rewards with discounted Resin. Use your first attempt to learn her pattern, then optimize the party on later weeks. Many players bring the same party they use for other Electro content so they only need to learn one set of cooldowns.
If you keep losing the fight: quick diagnosis
- You die in her lunging combo: do not stay in melee range. Dodge sideways or back out, then return after the final dash.
- You cannot deal enough damage: save bursts for when she is recovering, and avoid wasting skills early.
- You get swarmed with damage you cannot heal: bring a shielder or healer.
- The quest fight feels impossible: remember it is a survival-then-burst fight. Avoid attacks until the cutscene trigger.
- You are under-leveled: raise your characters and Adventure Rank, then try the weekly domain.
Pre-fight checklist
- A balanced party you have practiced with.
- A shielder or healer.
- Food and healing items.
- Your Resin and your weekly boss discount available.
Quick recap
- Unlock the weekly boss with her story quest.
- Avoid close range, dodge the forward slashes.
- Use shields and bursts at the right time.
