Chromebooks run ChromeOS rather than Windows, so Roblox does not install the way it does on a PC. The good news is that most modern Chromebooks can run the Android version of Roblox through the Google Play Store. This guide shows how to check your device, install Roblox, solve common problems and what to know if your Chromebook belongs to a school.
Short answer
Yes, you can play Roblox on most Chromebooks that support Android apps. Open Settings, turn on the Google Play Store, search for Roblox, install it and sign in. Chromebooks without Play Store support, and school-managed Chromebooks that block it, cannot install Roblox until that changes.
Key facts at a glance
- How it works: Roblox runs as an Android app on ChromeOS through Google Play.
- Main requirement: a Chromebook that supports the Play Store and Android apps.
- Older models: some older or low-end Chromebooks cannot run Roblox well, or at all.
- School devices: administrators often disable the Play Store.
- Account: your Roblox login works on every device.
Step 1: check whether your Chromebook supports Android apps
Open Settings and look for Apps, then Google Play Store. If you see it, your Chromebook supports Android apps. If you do not, update ChromeOS first, then check again. Models released in recent years almost always include it. If it still does not appear, the device is either too old or managed by an organization.
Step 2: turn on the Google Play Store
- Click the time in the bottom right corner and open Settings.
- Choose Apps, then Google Play Store.
- Select Turn on and accept the terms.
- Restart the Chromebook if the Play Store icon does not show up straight away.
Step 3: install Roblox
- Open the Google Play Store from the launcher.
- Search for Roblox and open the app made by Roblox Corporation.
- Select Install and wait for it to finish.
- Open Roblox from the launcher, sign in and choose an experience.
Always install from the official listing. Fake apps with similar names exist.
Roblox system requirements on Chromebook
Guides quote different minimums, and some of the numbers online are outdated, such as an old ChromeOS version. In practice, the Android version works best on Chromebooks with a recent ChromeOS, at least a few gigabytes of memory and enough free storage. If your Chromebook struggles, lower the graphics quality in the Roblox settings and close other tabs.
Roblox is not in the Play Store: what to do
- Update ChromeOS. Go to Settings, About ChromeOS and check for updates.
- Check Play Store support. If the setting is missing, the device may not support Android apps.
- Check for management. If the Chromebook is from a school or employer, an administrator may have blocked the Play Store or specific apps.
- Check region and account. Some accounts, such as supervised child accounts, may need a parent to approve installs.
- Restart and clear the Play Store cache.
How to play Roblox on a school Chromebook
School Chromebooks are managed. The administrator decides which apps are allowed, and many schools block games to protect learning time and network bandwidth. If Roblox is blocked, the right approach is to ask a teacher or IT staff, especially if there is an educational reason, such as a coding or design class. Do not try to bypass the filter with proxies, mirror sites or unofficial tools, because that can break school rules, expose your account to scams and get your device restricted. See our page on playing Roblox on a school computer for the details.
Can you use Roblox Studio on a Chromebook?
Roblox Studio is built for Windows and Mac, so the standard version is not offered on ChromeOS. Chromebook users who want to create games usually need another computer or a supported alternative. Check the Roblox Creator Hub for the current options before you invest time.
How to improve performance
- Lower graphics quality in Roblox settings.
- Close other apps and browser tabs.
- Use a strong Wi-Fi connection or Ethernet adapter.
- Keep Roblox and ChromeOS updated. See our guide on how to update Roblox.
- Clear the Roblox cache if the game freezes. Our guide on clearing the cache explains how.
- Keep your Chromebook cool and plugged in during long sessions.
How to update or uninstall Roblox on Chromebook
Open the Play Store, go to your profile, choose Manage apps and device, and update Roblox from the list. To remove it, press and hold the app icon in the launcher and choose Uninstall. Your account and items stay safe online.
Chromebook troubleshooting checklist
- Roblox crashes on launch: restart the Chromebook, clear the app cache and reinstall.
- Controls feel awkward: use an external mouse, or connect a Bluetooth controller in experiences that support it.
- Audio problems: check the volume and make sure Roblox has microphone and sound permissions.
- Storage full: remove unused Android apps and offline files.
- Slow loading: switch to a faster Wi-Fi band or move closer to the router.
Best settings for low-end Chromebooks
Set graphics quality to a low level, turn off unnecessary visual effects in games that allow it, and avoid heavy experiences with huge maps. Choose lighter games such as simple obbies or small roleplay worlds until you know what your hardware can handle.
Parents: setting up Roblox on a child Chromebook
If your child uses a Chromebook managed through Family Link, you can approve app installs from your own device. After Roblox is installed, review the Roblox parental controls, set spending limits and check which account type applies, such as Roblox Kids or Roblox Select. Keeping the Roblox and device settings aligned prevents surprises.
