The BMX is the trick bicycle of Grand Theft Auto V. Small, light and built for stunts, it lets you hop, spin, flip and grind your way around Los Santos, especially at the Vespucci Beach skate park. It is slow compared with motorized vehicles, but it is fun, quiet and great for exploring tight spaces. In story mode you can spawn a BMX with a cheat, and in GTA Online you can buy one cheaply. This wiki page covers the BMX cheat code on every platform, how to do tricks, where to find or buy one, other bicycles in GTA 5, stamina and cycling skills, and FAQs.

How to do BMX tricks

BMX tricks use the bike’s lean and jump controls:

  • Bunny hop: press and release the jump or hop button to lift both wheels off the ground. Hold longer for a higher hop.
  • Wheelie: lean back while pedaling to lift the front wheel.
  • Stoppie or nose wheelie: lean forward while braking to lift the rear wheel.
  • Flips: while in the air off a ramp, lean forward or back to do front flips and back flips.
  • Spins: steer left or right while in the air to spin the bike.
  • Tail whips and bar spins: combinations of lean and steering during big jumps create stylish tricks.

The higher and faster you hit a ramp, the more time you have in the air for tricks. Practice landings, because landing at a bad angle throws you off the bike.

Where to find or buy a BMX

Story mode

  • Cheat: BANDIT or the console sequence.
  • Vespucci Beach: BMX bikes are often found near the skate park and boardwalk, where riders hang out.
  • Residential areas: BMXs and other bicycles appear around neighborhoods across Los Santos.
  • Buy it: bicycles are sold on in-game sites and delivered to your garage.

GTA Online

In GTA Online, the BMX is one of the cheapest vehicles, sold on the Pedal and Metal Cycles website. It is popular for fun, trick videos and casual races.

Best places to ride a BMX

  • Vespucci Beach skate park: ramps, bowls and rails made for tricks.
  • Storm drains: the Los Santos River channel has long slopes and ramps.
  • Mount Chiliad trails: a BMX can ride the mountain bike trails for a thrilling, if bumpy, descent.
  • Construction sites and parking garages: ramps and levels for creative stunts.
  • Del Perro Pier and the beach boardwalk: great for cruising and people watching.

Cycling and stamina

Riding bicycles in story mode improves your character’s stamina skill, which lets them run, swim and cycle longer without tiring. Pedaling quickly by tapping the accelerate button increases speed but uses stamina faster. Characters with high stamina can sprint on a bike for longer. Michael, Franklin and Trevor can also take part in triathlons, which combine swimming, cycling and running and are a great way to raise stamina and earn money. The road bikes, not the BMX, are best for triathlons.

BMX in GTA Online

In GTA Online, BMX bikes are used for fun freemode trick sessions, custom stunt races and creator jobs. The Rockstar Editor and Snapmatic tools let players record and share BMX trick clips. Because bicycles are quiet and small, some players also use them to sneak around or to travel short distances without drawing attention.

Riding tips

  • Tap the pedal button rhythmically instead of holding it to build speed efficiently.
  • Hop curbs instead of riding into them to avoid crashing.
  • Lean back slightly before landing big jumps.
  • Use the BMX’s small size to take shortcuts through alleys and over rails.
  • Avoid busy roads: cars can knock you off easily.

BMX stunt ideas

  • Skate park combo: chain bunny hops, wheelies and small spins around the Vespucci skate park without stopping.
  • Storm drain run: ride down the Los Santos River channel, hopping over walls and using the sloped sides as ramps.
  • Rooftop drop: carry momentum off a parking garage ramp and land on a lower level.
  • Chiliad descent: spawn a BMX at the top of Mount Chiliad and try to reach the bottom without falling off.
  • Pier jump: launch off a ramp near the beach into the ocean for a dramatic splash.

Recording these with the Rockstar Editor on PC and current consoles lets you edit slow-motion replays and share them with friends.

BMX vs motorcycles

Bicycles are much slower than motorcycles, but they have some advantages. They are almost silent, so they do not draw as much attention. They are small and light, so they can go up stairs, through narrow gaps and over obstacles that would stop a heavier bike. They also never need fuel or repairs in a practical sense, and if they get damaged you can simply spawn another. For fun and exploring, a BMX is often more enjoyable than a fast bike, while for getaways and long trips a motorcycle like the PCJ-600 is far better.

Which character rides best?

All three protagonists can ride bicycles, and stamina is the main skill that matters. If you want long BMX sessions without your character getting tired, raise stamina by cycling, running and swimming. Franklin is often used for BMX sessions in fan videos because he spends a lot of time in the city near the skate park, but any character works well.

BMX in GTA history

The BMX first became famous in GTA San Andreas, where CJ could pull off wheelies and bunny hops, and it returned in GTA 5 with improved physics and trick controls. Fans of the San Andreas BMX were happy to see it come back with even more freedom.

BMX safety and common mistakes

Most BMX crashes come from landing at a bad angle or hitting curbs at speed. Slow down before pavement edges, hop over small obstacles instead of riding into them, and stay off busy roads where cars cannot see you. Do not try big flips on your first jump: start with small hops, then add a spin, then a flip once you can land consistently. If you fall off, the bike stays where it landed, so you can usually pick it back up and keep going without spawning a new one. Practice in quiet areas such as the beach parking lots at night, when traffic is low and you can try the same trick repeatedly.

Taking BMX clips with the Rockstar Editor

On PC and current consoles, the Rockstar Editor records your last minutes of gameplay when you save a clip. Many players use it to capture BMX tricks, then add slow motion, camera angles and music. For best results, record at the skate park from a low camera angle, and use the slow-motion or Deadeye-style cheats sparingly so clips still look natural.
