Dappled Forest and poplar wood

The Dappled Forest is an autumn biome that generates near cold biomes such as taiga. It has more fallen trees than other forests, coarse dirt and leaf litter, red shrubs, brown and shelf mushrooms, and some spruce trees. Rabbits, foxes and the cold variants of farm animals live here.

  • Poplar trees have red, orange or yellow leaves, chosen when the world generates.
  • A full poplar wood set: planks, stairs, slabs, signs, hanging signs, buttons, pressure plates, doors, fences, gates, trapdoors, a shelf, two boats, and stripped logs and wood.
  • Poplar leaves can be smelted into leaf litter.

Shelf mushrooms

Shelf mushrooms grow on standing and fallen poplar logs in two sizes. Bone meal grows a small one into a large one, and something that lands on them bounces slightly. They can be used in mushroom, suspicious and rabbit stew.

Abandoned Camps

Abandoned Camps are a new surface structure that can appear in many biomes, from meadows, forests and taigas to swamps, savannas, jungles, badlands and the pale garden. A camp is a tent made of white wool stairs with straw beds and fences, sometimes with a stone shelter, a pond, a small farm or a lone tree.

  • Loot: chests and barrels, plus a hidden oxidized copper chest.
  • Explorer maps: normal camp chests can hold maps to other camps in eight biomes. The hidden copper chest can hold maps to buried Ancient Cities, buried mineshafts, desert pyramids and warm ocean ruins.
  • Explorer maps have new icons, and your marker now shows which way you face even when you are past the map’s edge.

New blocks for builders

  • Straw beds: 3 hay bales make 4. Sleeping in one skips the night without setting your spawn point, and the bed breaks after one use. In the Nether or the End it simply breaks instead of exploding.
  • Cushions: craft from 3 wool slabs of one colour (all 16 colours). You can place them on any surface at any height and sit on them. They pop off if moved by a piston or if the block below disappears.
  • Wool stairs and slabs in all 16 colours.
  • Concrete stairs and slabs in all 16 colours, from the crafting table or the stonecutter.

FAQ

Do straw beds reset my spawn point?

No. They let you skip the night while keeping your existing spawn point, which makes them handy on journeys.

How do I find a Dappled Forest?

Look next to cold biomes like taiga and snowy areas in newly generated chunks, or follow an explorer map from an Abandoned Camp.

Is Wilderness Bound on Bedrock?

Yes, as Bedrock Edition 26.50, released the same day.
