On PlayStation and Xbox you enter GTA 5 cheats as button sequences during story mode, without pausing. For example, invincibility is R, X, R, L, R, R1, R, L, X, Triangle on PlayStation and R, A, R, L, R, RB, R, L, A, Y on Xbox. This guide explains the notation, lists all 31 sequences in our database and covers what to do when one does not register.
How do you read the button notation?
The sequences use short labels. U, D, L and R are the directional pad: up, down, left and right. The face buttons have different names on each console, so the table below shows how they match.
| PlayStation | Xbox |
|---|---|
| Cross (X) | A |
| Circle (CIR) | B |
| Square (SQ) | X |
| Triangle (TRI) | Y |
| L1 and R1 | LB and RB |
| L2 and R2 | LT and RT |
The shoulder buttons follow the same pattern. L1, R1, L2 and R2 on PlayStation correspond to LB, RB, LT and RT on Xbox.
How do you enter a cheat on PlayStation or Xbox?
- Start or load a single-player story game. Cheats do not work in GTA Online.
- Get control of your character and make sure no menu or cutscene is open.
- Press the buttons in order at a steady pace, without pausing the game.
- Watch for the confirmation message. If nothing appears, try again a little faster.

Tips for getting a sequence to register
- Keep a steady rhythm. Long gaps between presses can cancel the sequence.
- Do not pause. Enter the buttons while playing, not from a menu.
- Check each button. A single wrong press means starting again.
- Use the right column. It is easy to read the PlayStation sequence by mistake when you are on Xbox.
- Try again once. If it fails the first time, repeat it a little more slowly before assuming the code is wrong.
Do these work on PS5 and Xbox Series X and S?
The current-generation edition of GTA 5 launched on March 15, 2022 for PS5 and Xbox Series X and S. Our sequences were checked on 2026-10-21, and they are entered the same way: during story mode, at a steady pace. If a sequence is not accepted on your console, confirm the buttons and the platform column first.
What about phone number cheats?
GTA 5 also lets you dial cheats as phone numbers on the in-game phone, which works on every platform. We do not list the numbers on this site until each one is verified, so use the button sequences above or the cheat code finder.
What happens to saving and achievements?
According to the Rockstar support article, saving is allowed when cheat codes are enabled, but achievements are temporarily disabled. Entering the same cheat code twice will usually, but not always, disable the cheat, and reloading a save or rebooting the console resets all cheats. Specific cheats are sometimes unavailable during certain gameplay, in which case the game shows Cheat Denied. Read using cheats safely before you start.
