Roblox › Help Center › Fix & Troubleshoot
Roblox stores temporary files on your device so that games load faster. Over time those files can become corrupted or bloated, which may cause lag, crashes or loading loops. Clearing the cache is a safe first fix. This guide shows how to do it on every major device and explains what it does and does not remove.
Short answer
Close Roblox, then delete its temporary files. On Windows use the Run box and the Roblox folder in Temp. On Mac clear the Roblox cache in the Library Caches folder. On Android use Clear cache in the app storage settings. On iPhone and iPad you cannot clear it directly, so offload or reinstall Roblox. Your account is not affected.
Key facts at a glance
- Safe to do: the cache holds temporary files, not your account data.
- Does not delete: Robux, items, friends or purchases.
- Does not auto-clear: the cache keeps growing until you remove it.
- iPhone and iPad: no direct clear option, so use offload or reinstall.
- Android: Clear cache is separate from Clear data, which also resets settings and sign-in.
How to clear the Roblox cache on Windows
- Close Roblox completely, including the launcher.
- Press Windows key + R to open Run.
- Type %Temp%Roblox and press Enter.
- Press Ctrl + A to select everything in the folder.
- Press Delete, then empty the Recycle Bin.
Some guides also point to the Roblox folder under AppData, Local, Packages when you use the Microsoft Store version. Delete only Roblox-related folders and leave other apps alone.
How to clear the Roblox cache on Mac
- Quit Roblox.
- Open Finder, choose Go, then Go to Folder.
- Enter ~/Library/Caches and press Return.
- Find the folder named com.Roblox.Roblox and open it.
- Select its contents and move them to the Trash, then empty the Trash.
How to clear the Roblox cache on Android
- Open Settings and go to Apps.
- Tap Roblox.
- Choose Storage.
- Tap Clear cache.
Avoid Clear data unless you want a full reset, because it removes local preferences and signs you out.
How to clear the Roblox cache on iPhone and iPad
iOS does not let you clear one app cache directly. Use one of these methods.
- Offload: go to Settings, General, iPhone Storage, tap Roblox and choose Offload App, then reinstall it.
- Delete and reinstall: remove the app, then download it again from the App Store.
Chromebook, Xbox and PlayStation
On a Chromebook, clear the Android app cache from the Apps settings or reinstall Roblox. On consoles, restart the console and reinstall the app if problems continue, since consoles manage cache differently.
When should you clear the Roblox cache?
- Games take very long to load or freeze on the loading screen.
- Roblox crashes repeatedly. See also our guides on crashing and lag.
- Textures or avatar items look broken.
- You see strange errors after an update.
- Your device is low on storage.
What clearing the cache does not fix
It will not repair a bad internet connection, an overloaded device, a server outage or a ban. If problems remain, update Roblox, restart your device, lower graphics settings and check your network. See our guide on how to update Roblox.
Browser cache vs Roblox cache
If the Roblox website behaves oddly, you can refresh while ignoring cached content with Ctrl + Shift + R on Windows or Chromebook, or Command + Shift + R on Mac. This reloads the page but does not erase the whole browser cache.
Safety tips
Only delete the Roblox folders described above. Do not download so-called cache cleaners from unknown websites, because many are bundled with unwanted software. Roblox itself never requires paid tools to clear the cache.
Step-by-step troubleshooting order
When Roblox misbehaves, work from the easiest fix to the most drastic one. This order saves time and avoids unnecessary reinstalls.
- Restart Roblox and your device.
- Check your internet connection and try a different network if you can.
- Update Roblox to the latest version.
- Clear the cache as described above.
- Lower the graphics quality in the settings.
- Reinstall Roblox as a last resort.
How much space can the cache use?
The size varies with how many different games you play. Players who jump between many experiences can build up a surprisingly large cache, sometimes enough to matter on phones with little storage. If your device warns about low space, clearing the Roblox cache is a quick way to free some of it without losing progress.
Common mistakes when clearing the cache
- Deleting the wrong folder. Stick to Roblox folders only.
- Leaving Roblox running. Close it completely first, or files can be locked.
- Using Clear data on Android and being surprised to be signed out.
- Expecting miracles. A cache clear helps only when corrupted files are the cause.
- Forgetting to restart. Relaunch Roblox after clearing so it can rebuild the files.
Preventing cache problems
Keep your device updated, avoid force-closing Roblox mid-load, leave some free storage and reinstall Roblox once a year or after a major operating system upgrade if you notice slowdowns.
Cache vs reinstall: which should you pick?
Clearing the cache is quicker and keeps your install. Reinstalling replaces every file, so it also fixes damaged program files, not just temporary ones. Try the cache first. If problems come back within a day, reinstall.
Quick recap
Close Roblox, remove the temporary files for your device, reopen the app and test one game. If the problem returns, update or reinstall. The whole process takes only a few minutes and does not touch your account.
