Background
Trevor had a troubled childhood with an abusive father and a domineering mother, and he moved around a lot growing up. He trained as a military pilot but was discharged after a psychological evaluation. He met Michael in the 1990s, and the two became partners in a string of robberies across the Midwest. When the 2004 Ludendorff job went wrong, Trevor believed Michael had been killed and escaped, eventually settling in Blaine County, where he started a meth and arms business called Trevor Philips Enterprises.
In 2013, Trevor sees a news report about a jewel store robbery that sounds just like Michael’s style. Realizing his old partner might be alive, he heads to Los Santos to find him, setting up one of the game’s most intense reunions.
Personality
Trevor is explosive, impulsive and often extremely violent, but he also has a strong sense of loyalty and his own twisted code of honor. He hates betrayal more than anything, which is why Michael’s lies hurt him so deeply. He is surprisingly perceptive, funny and honest, often saying exactly what other characters avoid. Many players find him the most memorable GTA character because he is so unpredictable: one moment he is caring for a stranger, the next he is starting a gang war.
Special ability: Red Mist
Trevor’s special ability, often called Red Mist, makes him deal double damage while taking much less damage, and his melee attacks become devastating. It turns him into a tank in gunfights and fights against large groups. Activate it by clicking both thumbsticks or pressing Caps Lock on PC; the meter fills as you take part in combat. Trevor also begins with the best flying skill of the three, which makes him the natural choice for helicopter and plane missions.
Trevor Philips Enterprises
TPE is Trevor’s small criminal business in Sandy Shores, run with his friends Ron Jakowski, a paranoid conspiracy theorist, and Wade Hebert, a naive young drifter. Early missions show Trevor wiping out rival gangs, including the Lost MC biker gang and the O’Neil brothers, to take over the local meth and gun trade. TPE side missions include rampages, weapon deliveries by air and ground, and bail bond jobs.

Relationships
- Michael De Santa: his oldest friend and greatest disappointment. Their arguments and fragile partnership are central to the story.
- Franklin Clinton: Trevor sees Franklin as a younger version of what Michael could have been and treats him with rough affection.
- Ron and Wade: his loyal, odd sidekicks in Sandy Shores.
- Patricia Madrazo: the cartel boss’s wife, whom Trevor kidnaps and forms an unusual bond with.
Trevor and the endings
In Something Sensible (Ending A), Franklin is ordered by FIB agent Steve Haines to kill Trevor, and Trevor dies in a burning car at an oil field. In The Time’s Come (Ending B), Trevor survives but cuts ties with Franklin. In The Third Way (Ending C), considered canon, Trevor survives and helps take down Devin Weston, Steve Haines, Stretch and Wei Cheng. Ending C is the most popular choice because it keeps all three protagonists alive.
Trevor in GTA Online
Trevor appears in GTA Online’s original Heists update, where he hires players for the Prison Break heist and other jobs. These appearances are set before the main story’s events. His trailer in Sandy Shores and his associates also appear around the map in GTA Online.

Trevor’s side activities
Trevor has more unusual side content than anyone else. He can do rampages, which are short timed fights against waves of enemies, and Strangers and Freaks missions with characters like Maude, the bail bond agent, and Mrs. Philips, his mother, who returns in a memorable mission. He handles TPE drug and gun smuggling runs by plane and truck from his airfield, hunts with Cletus in the woods, and takes part in off-road and air races. He can also buy properties such as the McKenzie Field Hangar and the Vanilla Unicorn, which earn weekly income.
Trevor’s skills
Trevor begins with the best flying skill of the three protagonists, so he handles planes and helicopters best from the start. His strength stat is also high, which makes his punches and Red Mist melee attacks especially powerful. Like the others, his stealth, stamina and lung capacity improve as you use them. Use Trevor for flight school challenges and air-based heist roles, and use his special ability whenever a mission turns into a big gunfight.
Where to find Trevor
When you switch to Trevor in free roam, the camera often finds him in bizarre situations: chasing someone in his underwear, waking up on a beach in a dress, or yelling at strangers. These switch scenes are a fun part of his character and show the chaos of his daily life.
Love him or fear him, Trevor is the character most players remember long after the credits, and his wild energy defines much of what makes GTA 5 stand out.
Whether you play him for the chaos or the comedy, he never stops surprising you.
He is GTA at its wildest.
