Tiny Takeover (Java 26.1)
Tiny Takeover, the first Minecraft game drop of 2026, redesigned baby mobs and added the Golden Dandelion, craftable name tags and a trumpet note block sound.
Tiny Takeover is the first Minecraft game drop of 2026. It released on March 24, 2026 as Java Edition 26.1 and Bedrock Edition 26.10. It is a smaller, themed drop: instead of a new biome it gives baby mobs their own models and sounds, adds a way to keep them small forever, and brings several long-requested quality-of-life changes.

Redesigned baby mobs
Before this drop, most baby animals were simply shrunken copies of the adults. Tiny Takeover gives most of them their own proportions and animations, so calves, piglets, lambs, chicks, puppies, kittens and many others now look like real babies. Aquatic mobs were included too: the axolotl, dolphin, turtle, squid and glow squid all gained new baby versions during development.
Babies also got their own voices. Wolves, cats, pigs, horses and chickens have new baby sound sets, and cats, pigs, cows and chickens gained extra adult sound variants.
Golden Dandelion: keep a baby mob small
- Recipe: one dandelion in the middle of the crafting grid, surrounded by eight gold nuggets. The recipe unlocks after you breed your first mob.
- How to use it: hold it and use it on a baby mob. Its aging stops and it stays a baby.
- Undo it: use a second Golden Dandelion on the same mob and it starts growing again.
- Limits: it does not work on baby villagers or undead babies such as baby zombies.
Craftable name tags
Name tags no longer depend on luck. You can now craft one from one paper and one metal nugget. In exchange, name tags were removed from the loot tables of Ancient City and Woodland Mansion chests.
Other changes
- Trumpet: a note block placed on a copper block now plays a new trumpet sound.
- Stonecutter: stone and deepslate can be cut straight into their cobbled, polished, brick and tile variants.
- Lighting: the way block and sky light are turned into on-screen brightness was rewritten.
- Menu: a new main menu panorama.
- Bug fixes: 89 bugs were fixed in the Java release.
Before you update (Java Edition)
- Java 25 is now required. The official launcher bundles the Microsoft build of OpenJDK 25, so most players do not need to do anything. Server owners running their own Java must upgrade first.
- Back up your worlds. The world and data storage file structure changed in this version.
- New version numbers: Minecraft now uses year.drop.hotfix, so 26.1 means the first drop of 2026 and fixes will be 26.1.1, 26.1.2 and so on.
