Trusted Connections are one of Roblox newer safety and social features. They let you mark people you know in real life so that you can use richer chat and Party Voice with them. This guide explains what trusted connections are, the requirements, and the exact ways to add one for teens, adults and younger players.

Short answer

First finish the Roblox age check, because you must estimate your age to get access. Then connect with the person normally and upgrade them to a trusted connection using one of the supported real-life methods: mutual opt-in from their profile, a live QR code scan, or the contact importer. Both people have to agree, and if either removes the other, neither sees the trusted status.

Key facts at a glance

  • Terminology: Roblox Friends were renamed Connections. Trusted Connections are a smaller group inside them.
  • Requirement: age-checked accounts. Without an age check, someone may only appear as a regular Connection.
  • Mutual consent: both people must accept.
  • What it unlocks: features such as Party Voice and chat without filters, depending on the age pairing.
  • Methods can change: Roblox has said it plans more ways to upgrade connections.

What are trusted connections?

A connection is the standard mutual relationship on Roblox, the new name for a friend. A trusted connection is a connection you have confirmed as someone you actually know, usually through a real-life channel. Because Roblox knows these relationships are real, it can safely loosen some chat filters and allow Party Voice between them. Age-checked connections may also see each other age group, such as under 13, 13 or older, or 18 or older, and the account country.

Before you start

  1. Complete the age check on both accounts.
  2. Update the Roblox app to the latest version.
  3. Make sure you are already connected, or be ready to send a connection request first.

How to add a trusted connection as a teen (13 to 17)

Teens can use several routes.

  1. Mutual opt-in from a profile. Open the connection profile, tap the three-dot menu and choose Add Trusted Connection. The request becomes active when the other person accepts.
  2. Connect page. From the plus icon at the top of Home, open the Connect page and use the options there.
  3. Live QR code. Both people open the mobile app, go to Connect and scan each other code in person. Your own code is under Add Friends and My QR.
  4. Contact importer. Open Contacts from the same menu, find the person in your phone contacts and send the request.

If the option does not appear, the person may not be eligible for mutual opt-in yet.

How to add a trusted connection as an adult (18 and older)

Adult rules are stricter when the other person is a teen. Age-checked adults can add age-checked 13 to 17 year olds only through real-life channels such as phone contacts and QR code scanning. Adults connecting with other adults can use the simpler mutual opt-in route. This protects younger users by making sure the relationship exists offline.

How to add a trusted connection if you are under 13

Younger users have fewer options and need a parent. Guides describe a parent-approval flow: open the friend profile, choose Add trusted friend, and when asked, use the Ask now option or enter a parent email. For the automatic route, both accounts are age-checked, a parent is linked in Parental Controls, and parent verification is completed. Roblox Kids accounts for ages 5 to 8 have chat off by default, so check the Kids and Select settings too.

What trusted connections unlock

  • Party Voice: a party may include up to six people in some descriptions, and everyone in it must be trusted.
  • Chat without filters: between eligible age-checked pairs, such as two teens who add each other.
  • Safer social features because the relationship is real and mutual.

Not every combination unlocks everything. An adult and a teen, for example, get only the features Roblox allows for that pairing.

How to remove a trusted connection

Open the profile, use the three-dot menu and choose the remove option for the trusted status. If either person removes the other, both lose the trusted label. Turning off contact syncing does not remove existing connections.

Why you cannot find the option

  • The age check is not complete on one or both accounts.
  • The other person only appears as a regular Connection.
  • The app is out of date.
  • The pairing is not allowed, such as an adult trying a method reserved for teens.
  • Roblox changed the menu. Always follow the labels you see.

Safety tips

Only add people you know offline, never share your QR code publicly and talk to a parent or guardian before adding anyone online. Treat anyone who asks to be trusted without meeting you as a warning sign.

Trusted connections vs friends vs followers

These three terms are easy to mix up. A connection is a mutual relationship, the new name for a friend. A trusted connection is a smaller subset that you have confirmed as real-life contacts. Following someone is one-directional and does not unlock chat features. Use trusted connections only for people you know offline, and use normal connections for in-game friends you have not met.

Example: setting up Party Voice for a group of friends

  1. Everyone completes the age check.
  2. Each pair upgrades each other using the QR code when you meet, or the contact importer if you already have each other in your phone.
  3. Open a party and invite the group. Because everyone is trusted, Roblox allows Party Voice.
  4. Agree on house rules such as who can invite others.
