How to Teleport in Minecraft: /tp to Coordinates, Players and Villages

How to teleport in Minecraft with /tp and /teleport: teleport to coordinates, to another player, bring someone to you, and teleport to a village on Java and Bedrock.

Game Respawned Editorial TeamUpdated October 28, 2026

Teleporting is one of the most useful things you can do in Minecraft once cheats are on. With the /tp command (or its longer form /teleport) you can jump instantly to any coordinates, go to another player, bring a friend to you, return to your base after getting lost, or travel straight to a village or structure. This guide explains how to teleport in Minecraft on Java and Bedrock, with exact command examples, how to find the coordinates you need, and survival-friendly ways to teleport without cheats.

Before you start: turn on cheats

Commands only work in worlds where cheats are enabled, or on servers where you have operator permission. In single-player Java, open the pause menu, choose Open to LAN and set Allow Cheats to On. In Bedrock, open world settings and toggle Activate Cheats, which disables achievements for that world. Our guide on how to enable cheats in Minecraft covers every platform in detail. Once cheats are on, press T or / on PC, or open chat on console, and type the command.

How to teleport to coordinates

The basic command is:

/tp X Y Z

For example, /tp 100 64 -250 sends you to X 100, Y 64, Z -250. X is east-west, Y is height and Z is north-south. If you choose a Y value inside the ground you might suffocate, so pick a height above the surface, such as 100, and fall to the ground, or use a safe Y value you have seen before. To find your current position, turn on coordinates: press F3 on Java, or enable Show Coordinates in Bedrock world settings. See how to see coordinates in Minecraft.

Relative coordinates with ~

The tilde symbol means relative to your current position. /tp ~ ~10 ~ moves you ten blocks straight up, and /tp ~100 ~ ~ moves you 100 blocks east. This is handy for escaping caves or jumping across rivers without calculating exact numbers.

Teleport in the Nether or End

Coordinates work the same way in other dimensions, but /tp alone keeps you in your current dimension. On Java you can use /execute in minecraft:the_nether run tp @s X Y Z to teleport into another dimension. On Bedrock, use the equivalent execute syntax or travel through a portal first.

How to teleport to another player

To go to a friend, type:

/tp @s PlayerName

The @s selector means yourself. You can also simply type /tp PlayerName on Java, which teleports you to them. Player names are case-insensitive on most versions but must be spelled correctly; press Tab on Java to auto-complete names.

How to teleport someone to you

To bring another player to your location, reverse the order:

/tp PlayerName @s

This is perfect when a friend is lost or stuck. To bring everyone, use /tp @a @s, where @a means all players. To move one player to another, use /tp PlayerOne PlayerTwo. On servers, only operators can teleport other people, so ask an admin if you do not have permission.

How to teleport to a village

Minecraft does not have a direct teleport-to-village command, but you can combine two commands:

  1. Type /locate structure village_plains on Java (or another village type such as village_desert, village_savanna, village_snowy or village_taiga). On Bedrock, type /locate structure village.
  2. The game shows the nearest village coordinates and how far away it is. On Java you can click the green coordinates in chat to auto-fill a teleport command.
  3. Teleport there with /tp X ~ Z, using a high Y value if you are not sure of the height.

The same method works for other structures: ancient cities, trial chambers, strongholds and more. Our /locate guide lists every structure name.

Useful teleport selectors

  • @s: yourself.
  • @p: the nearest player.
  • @a: all players.
  • @r: a random player.
  • @e: all entities, including mobs. Use carefully: /tp @e[type=cow] @s brings all cows to you.

Teleporting without cheats

In normal Survival you cannot use commands, but there are still ways to move instantly:

  • Ender pearls: throw one and you teleport to where it lands, taking a little damage. Endermen drop them, and cleric or other villagers sometimes trade them.
  • Chorus fruit: eating it teleports you randomly up to eight blocks away, useful for escaping danger. It grows in the End.
  • Nether travel: every block in the Nether equals eight in the Overworld, so a Nether portal network is the fastest long-distance travel. See Nether portal coordinates.
  • Beds and respawn anchors: dying sends you to your spawn point, though you lose items unless keepInventory is on.

Common teleport problems

  • Unknown command: cheats are off or you are not an operator.
  • Player not found: the name is misspelled or they are offline.
  • You fall and die: you teleported too high; use a lower Y value or enable Slow Falling.
  • You suffocate: you teleported inside blocks; teleport again with a higher Y value.

Teleport FAQ

What is the teleport command in Minecraft?

/tp or /teleport, followed by coordinates or a player name.

How do you teleport to coordinates?

Type /tp X Y Z, for example /tp 0 100 0.

How do you teleport someone to you?

Type /tp PlayerName @s.

Does /tp work on Bedrock and consoles?

Yes, as long as cheats are enabled in the world.

Can you teleport in Survival without cheats?

Only with ender pearls, chorus fruit and travel tricks, not with commands.

Teleport commands on servers and Realms

On multiplayer servers, teleport commands depend on permissions. Server operators can use /tp freely, while normal players cannot. Many servers install plugins that add commands such as /tpa (request to teleport to a player), /tpaccept, /home and /spawn, which let regular players teleport with permission from others. On Realms, the owner can enable cheats in the world settings and give operator status to friends. If a command is refused, check with the server’s rules or staff rather than trying to bypass protections.

Teleport with command blocks

Command blocks let you build teleport pads, warp rooms and custom map transitions. Place a command block, enter a command such as /tp @p 100 70 200, and power it with a pressure plate or button. Stepping on the plate teleports the nearest player. Map makers use this to move players between areas or to build hub worlds with portals to different games. See how to get a command block.

Teleporting mobs and items

You can also teleport entities, not just players. /tp @e[type=minecraft:villager,limit=1,sort=nearest] @s brings the nearest villager to you, which helps when building trading halls. Be careful with broad selectors like @e on their own, which include item drops, armor stands and every mob in loaded chunks.

Teleport safety tips

Always note your base coordinates before teleporting far away, so you can return with a single command. When teleporting into unexplored land, choose a Y value around 120 and enable Slow Falling with /effect give @s minecraft:slow_falling 30 on Java, or use Creative mode briefly, so you land safely. In multiplayer, ask before teleporting other players, because pulling someone mid-fight or mid-build can cost them items or progress.

With these commands you can move anywhere in your world in seconds.
